Halfen Brickwork Support at M62 Link Road Bridge

Having contacted Halfen, a solution was provided in the form of a "grid" of Halfen framing channels which allowed the brickwork contractors - Laing O’Rourke Infrastructures, to fix the brickwork back to the variable backing structure whilst providing the adjustability and flexibility required to create a clean brick facade. Halfen 50/40 HL slotted-back channels were fixed back to the piles at 450mm vertical spacings, to which 28/15 HL channel was attached for the brick restraint ties. Using the channels resulted in a quicker build due to the fact that no drilling/fixing was required, allowing the build to proceed quickly and continuously. The use of the channel also virtually eliminated dust and noise created when installing the brickwork. The two new free-flow link roads at M62 Junctions 6 were created to relieve the heavily congested roundabout known locally as "Tarbock Island". It is intended that the improvements will bring considerable road safety benefits, reduce congestion and driver stress and improve the reliability of journey times.
