Halfen - HIT balcony connection system
Balcony with HIT element
- Design evolved after careful analysis of all aspects of the detail
- Hairline cracks due to thermal movement avoided
- Easy to work with: site problems avoided
- Definite thermal separation between floor slab and balcony
- Dew point avoided
- Reduces heating costs and CO² emissions
- Reduces the lifetime cost of the building
- Assists in complying with Part L
Introduction
With improved insulation standards over the last 30 years, and with energy efficiency becoming an ever
more important design consideration, Halfens HIT can provide a solution to the architectural and engineering
problem of creating a thermal break whilst still providing a structural connection.
Whilst thermal breaks are particularly important for balcony slabs as shown below, HIT can also be used to
provide thermal breaks for a wide variety of structural connections - some of which are illustrated in the
following pages.
The HIT among balcony slab connections
- Dew point avoided
- Design evolved after careful analysis of all aspects of the detail
- State of art insulated thermal connections
- Provides a thermal break and structural connection for a wide variety of applications
- Standard metre elements and 200 mm make up pieces
- Economic design and use of material, minimal site wastage
- Also available in a fire resistant design (up to 90 minutes)
- Officially approved by the German Construction Supervisory Board DIBt
- Approval Number Z-15.7-171
- Thickness of insulation is 80mm
- Minimum slab depth 160mm
- Standard units up to 250mm deep (larger depths can be designed & manufactured to order)
Economical
Standard metre elements, 200mm make-up pieces and 50mm in-fill pieces can be combined to form any length.
The optimum cut to size layout can be achieved giving economy of materials. Halfen can assist in the layout
if required.
Easy to install
Simply place the HIT unit on formwork, fix reinforcement and pour concrete. The HIT insulation provides
the shuttering for the concrete
Minimises slab depth
Suitable for flat slabs because HIT
is installed within the depth of the slab, therefore no increase in storey height due to insulation build up.
