Panel Connecting, Support And Restraint Fixings.
Halfen produce a range of concrete panel support, restraint and connecting fixings. Halfen supports, restraints and fixings for cast stone features are also covered in clause F30/290.
These components should be specified under ‘Fixing’.

Concrete Lifting System

NVS Connecting Loop System
A system of cast-in, galvanised wire ropes with projecting loops designed to form connections between the precast panels using stitching reinforcing rods and insitu concrete. The wire rope cases are nailed to continuous timber battens to form a recess in the ends of the panels and loop sizes are available to form joint widths of 80, 100, 120 or 140mm between the panels. The system allows 2 or 3 panels to be connected together utilising the same joint and thin panels (minimum 125mm thick) can be accommodated by bending the cast-in tail around a reinforcing bar.

Type FPA Panel Support Fixings.
A range of fixings for wall panels.
Load capacity: Up to 56 kN.
Cavity: Up to 200mm.
Type WPA Top Fixing Dowels.
A range of fixings for corner panels which hang from a parapet.
Load capacity: Up to 80 kN.
Type BRA Parapet Corbel Fixings.
A range of fixings for parapet panels. Types are available to provide support at the top or the bottom of the panel.

Panel Restraint Fixings:
Horizontal restraint anchors, for fixing to concrete structure to provide restraint for wall panels. The choice of design depends on the panel size, cavity and accessibility. Halfen offers a range of restraints with varying load capacities to suit all conditions.
Type DS Spacer Bolts.
Hexagonal head bolts and inserts cast into the component. Provides ą20mm adjustment.
Cavity: Up to 240mm.
Bolt diameter: M10-M27.
Type HKZ Restraint Ties.
A channel tie fixed to vertical and horizontal channels to provide vertical and horizontal adjustment. A choice of channel size is available.
Cavity: Up to 150mm.
Type HKZ-GF Restraint Ties.
A restraint tie fixed to vertical and horizontal channels to provide vertical and horizontal adjustment with locking plate. A choice of channel size is available.
Cavity: Up to 125mm.
Type HKZ-GU Restraint Ties.
U-shaped restraint tie fixed to vertical and horizontal channels to provide vertical and horizontal adjustment with locking plate. A choice of channel size is available.
Cavity: Up to 175mm.
Type HKG Threaded Rod Restraint Ties.
A threaded rod tie fixed to vertical and horizontal channels to provide vertical and horizontal adjustment.
Cavity: Up to 180mm.
Type LD Adjustable Restraint Ties.
For use with Type DS Spacer Bolts. Locks the bolt in position.
Type SPV Restraint with Turnbuckle.
A channel tie fixed to vertical and horizontal channels to provide vertical and horizontal adjustment. Turnbuckle allows up to ą15mm lateral adjustment.
Cavity: Up to 200mm ą 15mm.
Type WD Site Drilled Restraints.
Provides a through fixing into the substructure. The access hole in the cladding will require to be filled or fitted with a cap.
Cavity: Up to 180mm.
Type HFV Dowel Restraint Fixings.
A range of dowel and socket sets designed to tie edges of adjacent panels together whilst allowing differential movement. The components are designed to be used in different combinations to suit particular requirements.

Halfen produce a range of components designed for casting into precast concrete units for use in lifting during production, transporting and erection on site and for attaching components after erection. The lifting components are not designed for use after final erection.

Rapid Lift System
Based on a steel anchor, capable of lifting loads up to 26 tonnes per anchor which is cast into the concrete with a recess-former over the head. After casting, the anchor is below the concrete surface but the anchor hole is accessible, allowing a ring clutch lifting hook to be placed over it and locked by hand. After use the clutch can be easily released. Release under load is not possible.

Wavy Tail Lifting Insert Ref: PC
A range of factory finished sockets swaged to a wavy reinforcement bar, available in zinc plated mild steel and stainless steel.
Available in 12-52mm diameters giving load capacity of 500-12,500 kg.
Designed for use with Threaded lifting loop or Swivel lifting eye. The treaded socket will be visible after final erection, but if recessed, can be mortared over.

Plain Socket Lifting Inserts Ref: PA/PB
A range of plain (Code PA) and crimped sockets (Code PB) designed for thin components. Plain sockets are available in zinc plated mild steel and stainless steel and crimped sockets are available in zinc plated mild steel only. For thin units that have to be turned through 180° from mould to final position, plain sockets can be made double ended (Code PM) to pass right through a unit. Contact Halfen for details.
Plain sockets are available in 12-52mm sizes, giving load capacity of 500-12,500 kg.
Crimped sockets are available in 12-30mm sizes, giving load capacity of 500-4000 kg.
The sockets are specially made for lifting and should not be used as fixing sockets.
The treaded socket will be visible after final erection, but if recessed, can be mortared over.

Capped End Lifting Insert Ref: PG
A range of sockets and plates available in zinc plated mild steel and stainless steel, designed for the face of thin panels or top of slabs.
Available in 12-52mm diameters giving load capacity of 500-12,500 kg.
Screw anchor inserts (Code PT) are available for shallow embedment without the need for a reinforcement tail - lateral bars are required for angled lifts.
The treaded socket will be visible after final erection, but if recessed, can be mortared over.

Threaded Lifting Loops Ref: PX
A range of high grade steel wire loops designed for use with all sizes of threaded inserts and for most applications. They are not designed for turning/pitching.
Available in 12-52mm sizes, giving load capacity of 500-12,500 kg.
A range of nailing plates are available for use with threaded inserts for eventual use with lifting hoops.

Swivel Lifting Eyes Ref: PW
A range of high grade steel lifting eyes designed for use with all sizes of threaded inserts and specially for angled lifts, such as turning/pitching. They are more durable than wire lifting hoops.
Available in 12-52mm diameters giving load capacity of 500-12,500 kg.
A range of nailing plates are available for specific use with threaded inserts for eventual use with swivel lifting eyes. Ordinary plastic nailing plates must not be used.

Wire Rope Lifting Hoops Ref: PU
A range of cast-in rope lifting hoops available in zinc plated and bright mild steel, designed for deep components.
Available in 6-32mm rope diameters giving load capacity of 800-25,000 kg. Other standard larger sizes are available for loads up to 57,000 kg - contact Halfen for details.
They are designed for use through a single cycle from production to final installation but are not suitable for multi-use applications.
The wire rope will be visible after final erection but can be cut off if required. However, consideration must be given to the corrosion protection of the cut ends to avoid rust staining.

Polypropylene Lifting Hoops Ref: PS
A range of cast-in lifting hoops designed primarily for deep components. The rope can be wrapped around reinforcing rods for use with thin units but adequate cover will still be required to the aluminium ferrule used for crimping the rope together - the ferrule must always be cast-in.
For lifting semi-dry architectural stone, contact Halfen for advice.
Available in 6-16mm rope diameters giving load capacity of 150-1200 kg.
They are designed for use through a single cycle from production to final installation but are not suitable for multi-use applications.
The polypropylene rope will be visible after final erection but can be cut off if required - there are no corrosion problems with polypropylene rope.

Cast-In Tube Sockets Ref: PK/PJ
A range of threaded sockets with hole for reinforcement (Code PK) of dowel (Code PJ) available in zinc plated mild steel or stainless steel (Grade 304 A2 - for Grade 316 contact Halfen for details), designed for single point fixing where accuracy of fixing position is required or where tolerances cannot be accommodated by other components. These sockets are not designed for lifting.
Sockets may be attached to timber formwork with either plastic nailing plates or standard hexagonal head bolts.
Sizes and loadings (for use with 30 N/mm˛ concrete):
Mild steel sockets are available in 6-30mm diameters giving load capacity of 1.5-27.5 kN.
Stainless steel sockets are available in 8-24mm diameters giving load capacity of 2-18 kN.
Mild steel sockets with dowel are available in 10-24mm diameters giving load capacity of 3.5-18 kN.
Stainless steel sockets with dowel are available in 10-24mm diameters giving load capacity of 3.5-18 kN.

Cast-In Solid Rod Sockets Ref: PF (2027)
A range of heavy duty threaded sockets machined from bar material and available in zinc plated mild steel and stainless steel (Grade 303 or 316). They can be supplied with either a hole for reinforcement or a cross pin. These sockets are not designed for lifting.
Sizes and loadings (for use with 30 N/mm˛ concrete):
Mild steel sockets are available in 12-30mm diameters giving load capacity of 9-60 kN (pull out) or 5.6-38 kN (shear).
Stainless steel sockets are available in 10-30mm diameters giving load capacity of 6-60 kN (pull out) or 4-38 kN (shear).
