F30 ACCESSORIES/SUNDRY ITEMS FOR BRICK/BLOCK/STONE WALLING

255 WIND POSTS:

Halfen manufacture 2 windpost systems, designed for use in addition to normal cavity wall ties to strengthen masonry panels. They avoid the need to cut inner leaf blockwork and ties can be adjusted to any position to suit bed joints in both leaves. Mainly used for storey-height panels; wind posts for spandrel panels and parapets are also available.
Fixing: Storey height windposts are positively fixed at the base and have a sliding fixing at the top to allow for differential movement between the structure and the masonry. Windposts for spandrel panels or parapets are fixed at the base only and must, therefore, be considered as a fixed end cantilever. The fixings to the structure will be designed to suit the particular application.
Design loading: Windposts for storey height masonry panels are designed to resist wind loadings only. Windposts for spandrel panels and parapet panels should be designed to resist an imposed horizontal point load at the free end of the post of 0.74 kN per metre run of masonry, as outlined in BS 6399: Part 1: 1984. Consult with Halfen for other applications.
Material: Stainless steel, Grade 304 (Grade 316 is also available to special order). Hot dipped galvanised mild steel is available to special order, but is recommended for dry internal applications.

Blockwork Wind Posts, Type BW.

Cavity Wind Posts, Type CW:
Type CW1
Formed from 2 lengths of Halfen 28/15 channel welded to a central spine and are available in 3 standard sizes and in any length to order. Designed for use with Halfen HTS-B 12 brick ties for locating in the masonry bed joints.
Type CW2
Comprises a channel profile to which WPT windpost ties are hooked on.
Type CW3
Formed from 2 CW2 channels welded back to back providing a stiffer profile and utilising WPT windpost ties.
Consult with Halfen technical literature for details. Halfen can also provide a design and specification service and it is recommended that they are consulted early in the design process. Alternatively a CAD disk can be supplied to assist selection and design by the specifier, subject to confirmation and final calculations by Halfen.

Blockwork Wind Posts, Type BW.
Designed for use where loading requirement or cavity width do not allow the use of CW cavity wind posts. Mainly used for storey-height panels; posts for spandrel panels and parapets are also available. They are available in 2 types:
Type BW1
Formed from folded angle, in 3 sizes and in any length to order. The longer leg is built into the inner leaf of masonry and has slotted holes, normally at 450mm centres, to accommodate Halfen HTS-TS ties. The outer leaf is restrained using WPT windpost ties.
Type BW2
Formed from a length of Halfen 28/15 channel with a 6mm thick spine centrally welded to the back of the channel. The spine is available in 4 standard depths and the units are available in any length to order, up to 6 metres. The spine is built into the inner leaf of masonry and has slotted holes, normally at 450mm centres, to accommodate Halfen HTS-TS ties. The outer leaf is restrained using standard HTS-B 12 ties.
